Leather Furniture Care Tips

Your leather furniture needs regular care to maintain its original condition and shine. While leather furniture costs more than fabric upholstery, leather can last much longer and can be maintained more easily if you care for it properly.

Although we encourage our customers to professionally clean leather upholstery at least once a year, it is still important to perform some basic leather care practice to prolong the beauty of your leather upholstery. Below are some simple practices for your consideration:

  • Dust leather upholstery weekly by vacuuming using soft brush attachment or wiping the leather upholstery using a clean dry cloth.
  • Moisturise leather using good quality leather condition at least every 6 months to prevent leather from cracking.
  • If there are visible dirt marks you may use a clean damp cloth to wipe the dirt away. If it’s a stubborn mark, you may use a little amount of dish washing soap and gently rub on the dirty surface. Try to do this step on a hidden corner if you have not cleaned the upholstery before to make sure the leather material is stable and will not discolour or absorb the moisture. If stains can’t be removed, contact professional leather service provider.
  • Immediately blot dry spillage on leather upholstery using a clean dry cloth to remove the excess fluid and then leave the leather to dry. Avoid wiping the spilled fluid to prevent spreading the stain.
  • Engage professional leather care service immediately after spotting stains on the leather to increase chance of removing them thoroughly.
  • Place your leather upholstery away from direct sun as leather can fade, harden and crack over time when expose to direct heat.
  • Avoid using sharp objects like scissors or knife when sitting on leather upholstery as leather tend to get scratches easily.
  • Avoid placing pen, nail polish, lipstick, paint, printed material etc when you are using leather upholstery as leather absorb dyes easily. These marks are very difficult to remove if the leather is stained by dyes.
