Home Remedies For Common Stains on Sofa

Stains on fabric furnishings are easiest to tackle when they are fresh. The longer they are left unattended, the more difficult they will be to remove. If, for whatever unfortunate circumstances you are in, you need to tackle fresh spillages or stains on your sofa, there are some common home-made solutions which you can try to apply before the stains cake within the fabric.

Home Remedy #1: Vinegar Solution

White vinegar solution is a good home remedy to remove odor and stains on fabric furnishings. Mix a cup of white vinegar and a cup of cool water into a clean spray bottle. When handling fresh soiling, always remove any excess solid or fluid before commencing spot removal by using kitchen towel. Instead of wiping the wet stain, always use kitchen paper to dab on the excess fluid to prevent the stain from spreading.

When fresh spillage is thoroughly removed, stain removal step can commence. Spray vinegar solution onto the stain. Do not over wet the stain. Use a clean white cloth to start blotting the stain from the outer edge towards the centre. Spray the stain again with the vinegar solution if stain is not fully removed and continue blotting using a clean cloth. Repeat this step until you are satisfied with the stain removal result. Rinse the stain by blotting the stain using a clean damp cloth until the vinegar solution is removed. Dry the damp spot thoroughly by using a hair dryer to prevent water mark from forming.

Home Remedy #2:  Carbonated Water

Carbonated water or soda water is often used to remove stain on fabric as it is pH neutral and odorless. Carbonated water can be a more effective choice compared to water when used for tackling stubborn stain like wine or blood. So, instead of using water to clean or rinse stains, pour a small amount of carbonated water onto the stain to blot. Remember to dry the damp spot thoroughly after spotting is completed to prevent water mark from forming.

Home Remedy #3: Baking Soda Paste

Mix ¼ cup of baking soda and 1/8 cup of water together in a bowl and stir them together to form baking soda paste. Baking soda paste is an effective home-made stain solution for stubborn stain like coffee and wine. After blotting the spillage using a clean damp cloth, apply the paste onto the spot by using a piece of clean cloth and leave it to sit for few hours to overnight to dry then vacuum it off.

Or to simplify matters, it could be as simple as engaging the professionals.
