Why You Need To Flip Your Mattress Regularly

Professional housekeepers would know that mattress need to be flipped regularly to maintain its shape and comfort. Body indentation on a mattress would naturally occur as the upholstery conforms to the sleeper’s weight and body contour.

How much the body indentation occurs would depend on type of bedding and the upholstery material used. A mattress is typically made of spring coil or other form of supporting material and cushioned by upholstery possibly made of foam, cotton, latex or even animal hair like horse hair, goose feather, etc.

Market observation have shown people are willing to invest more on mattress compared to the past decades mainly because more see the importance of good sleeping posture and demand on luxurious sleeping experience.

While you can buy top range mattress in the shop, proper care and maintenance is needed to prolong the comfort and durability of your highly priced furniture. Regular mattress flipping is one of the key important steps to ensure your investment on the rectangular upholstered box is worth it, even if extra pillow top has been placed on top.

How to rotate single sided mattress (Non-flip):

There are many non-flip mattresses available in the market. Do not assume you are exempted from this mattress care exercise. In fact, as a non flip tend to lose its comfort more easily than the double sided one, it is very crucial for rotation to be done even more regularly.

Rotation Steps:

  1. At least 2 adults are needed to complete this exercise safely as the mattress is heavy and would cause back injury if not done appropriately.
  2. Mattress bedding should be stripped, including bed sheets, pillows, and other accessories.
  3. Each person is to grab one end of the mattress, holding firmly on the corners, rotate the mattress clockwise 180 degree. Make sure the rotated mattress is aligned with the base.
  4. Rotate mattress monthly to minimise body indentation.

How to flip double sided mattresses:

Double sided mattress, technically, is more lasting than single sided mattress but needs regular flipping and maintenance to ensure the mattress stays comfortable and durable.

Flipping Steps:

  1. At least 2 adults are needed to complete this exercise safely as the double sided mattress is very heavy and would cause back injury if not done appropriately.
  2. Mattress bedding should be stripped, including bed sheets, pillows, and other accessories.
  3. Each person is to grab one end of the mattress, holding firmly on the corners, rotate the mattress clockwise 180 degree. Make sure the rotated mattress is aligned with the base.
  4. Each person is to grab the edge of the mattress and flip it such that the top side is now facing the bottom (top side goes to the bottom). Align the mattress with the base.
  5. Rotate and flip mattress every quarter to minimise body indentation.
